“I want you to know that everyone who walks into the building comments on the beauty of it. Thank you for your very tasteful design and thoughtfulness with every detail. All of us are loving being here every day. The school feels so fresh, beautiful and spacious.” —Caroline Jones, Director (retired), Prairie Creek Community School
Originally a country schoolhouse with four-classrooms opening onto a central gym , the current school needed more and better space. The gym became a quiet library that anchors the center of the school, the former mezzanine offices became an art room. A new addition nestled up to the treeline doubles the square footage of the building to create new classrooms, and a dedicated performance space/gymnasium with overhead doors to allow expansion seating.
Learning from the old school, banks of windows provide daylight to all spaces. Chalkboard slates replaced by whiteboards were used as the new library walls. Efficient new lights and controls as well as a solar tracking array cut electrical use.
